In preparation for the BEST.SUMMER.EVER. I had the opportunity to sit down with our JCC Summer Day Camp Directors to find out what they are doing to get ready for camp, what their favorite part about camp is and more! Check out what Garry Mason, JCC Sports Camp Director, had to say.

What are you doing to get ready for camp?

Making sure my staff is ready to go, finalizing all of our field trips, checking suppliers, contacting former campers, and anticipating a positive summer experience for staff, campers, and parents.

Tell us 1 thing that would surprise us about camp this summer.

We will be learning to log roll from a World Champion log roller.

What is your favorite part of camp?

My favorite part of camp is forming bonds with our campers.  I enjoy seeing them have fun and grow throughout the summer.  To me the best part of camp is watching the camper who is so shy and reserved the first week become outgoing and a leader by the last week.

What was your favorite moment from camp last summer?

My favorite moment of camp last summer was driving the bus for Skateboarding camp.  It was so awesome to see the campers improve as well as try new things that were not necessarily within their comfort zone.  With Skate Boarding camp campers are freer to experiment on their own.  It is so cool to catch a kid working through the process of how they are going to try a new trick or go down a new ramp and then  to see the joy on their face when they accomplish their goal or the determination when they don’t quite do it is one of the best parts of any camp.

Please give us 3 words to describe your camp.

Active - Positive - Fun.

Why JCC Sports Camps?

JCC Sports Camps offer campers a chance to try a number of different sports in a stress free setting.  Our main goal with all of our camps is to make sure that our campers are having a great time, meeting new friends and learning new skills.  Our sports camps are designed to incorporate all skill levels in our specialty camps such as golf, football, and baseball as well as our Sports Variety camp which gives campers the opportunity to find out what sports they really like.  Our coaches not only love their jobs but are passionate about the activities they are teaching.  We have current coaches and former athletes working in all of our camps who want to pass on the joy and knowledge they have to our campers.
