Tapestry: Jews & the Civil War

At the time of the Civil War, there were 150,000 – 200,000 Jews living in America, and about 20,000 in the South. 10,000 young Jewish soldiers served in the Confederate and Union armies. It was a time of American ideologies divided in many ways - and division among the Jews reflected the deep schism confronting the entirety of our young country. We will examine this complex matrix of values and suffering through dialogue and performance, including a signature performance of The Whipping Man, a Milwaukee Repertory Theater production we have been honored to collaborate on and support. Click here for the Tapestry Brochure.
