JCC Announces Laugh It Up Milwaukee 2013 Performers & Partners

November 21, 2012

The JCC is pleased to announce that comedians Richard Lewis and Susie Essman will take the stage in separate comedy sets for “Laugh It Up Milwaukee 2013:  Stand Up to Bullying,” at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the JCC.   The event is presented with generous support from Bayshore Community Foundation and will benefit the JCC and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin’s Act Now! bullying prevention program.

“Community partnership is an integral component of “Laugh It Up Milwaukee 2013,” said Mark Shapiro, JCC Executive Director of the JCC.  “‘Laugh It Up Milwaukee’ is about using the power of partnership to build a healthier community.  Together with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and with generous support from our friends at Bayshore Community Foundation, we’re using stand-up comedy to stand up to bullying. The result of this partnership will be an expansion of the Children’s Hospital Act Now! bullying prevention program in our community area schools.  Organizations working in partnership truly have the ability to make a difference.”

The evening will mark the second annual presentation of “Laugh It Up Milwaukee,” an event designed to show the power of organizations coming together to meet the needs of the Greater Milwaukee community.  Following the tremendous success of 2012’s event featuring SNL’s Seth Meyers, this year’s event will focus on standing up to bullying by partnering with Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin in support of Act Now! – the organization’s bullying prevention program focused on increasing tolerance and empowering student bystanders and staff members to end bullying in their schools.  The program, launched in 2010, in partnership with Zink the Zebra Foundation, has reached more than 50,000 students.  “Laugh It Up Milwaukee” will also support anti-bullying education for JCC teachers, camp counselors and students.

“Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin also welcomes the partnership opportunity,” added Peggy Troy, MSN, RN, president and CEO, Children’s Hospital and Health System.  “Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin is proud to partner with the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center for ‘Laugh It Up Milwaukee 2013: Stand Up To Bullying.’  Funds raised through this event help make it possible for Children’s Hospital to continue to bring health and wellness programs and services including our e-learning bullying prevention program Act Now! to our community.”  Troy went on to say, “Children’s Hospital offers e-learning programs as part of our commitment to improving the health status of all children.”

“Laugh It Up Milwaukee” is proudly presented in memory of Lee Kass, as Skylark Vending joins Bayshore Community Foundation, Kapco, Sadoff Investment Management, and other corporate partners in support of the evening and effort.
